how to do a proper drift
Wednesday, August 02, 2006
welcome to zero's drifting lesson!
today, i will be covering the tutorial on the most basic type of drifting, the "Heel Toe" drifting.
Before i start, i assumed u have watched jay chou's initial d rite? have u seen the way he do his conering? he uses his right foot to step on the brake and the gas pad. yea, that's the "heel toe" technique.
before u can start doing it, make sure your car isnt using the stock braking system coz it will lock ur wheels if u suddenly zham u brake pad so too hard at high speed. u'll need an ABS (known as Anti-Lock Braking System). Best would be the braking system from bremo. lotsa racing cards have been using that yo. not to mention some good tyres.
sounds easy but it's hard. coz i havnt tried this shit myself (coz i dun have the proper car to do it). pls, if your car doesnt have the correct suspension system with the sway bars etc, the whole car will split if u do this shit. trust me, u dun wanna end up in the obutories in the morning papers.
ok, enuf of shits up there and now we start the actual shit.
when u are driving at the high speed, and there's a turn ahead, this is what u do:
release the gas and step on brake pad USING UR TOEs (the standard braking technique). after slowing down ur car by abit clutch in, shift to neutral then shift ur heels to step on the gas pedal slightly. then clutch in, downshift, steer the wheel, and pull the handbrake up FULLY for around 1 second and release it. make sure you do it in 1 second if not ur car will be GGed.
u must be wondering why rite? i tell u, u can just do a drift by releasing your gas, step on brake slightly and pull handbrake for 1 second then step on gas. its that easy. but the thing you want is, MAINTAINING THE SPEED when you are drifting. so now, i will explain the reasons.
u slow down ur car slightly- this is a must. definately there will be speed lost. there is a term in the final theory text book saying the higher the speed, the harder the turning. its called the force of wadeva shit de. u might wanna read that up. u step on the gas at neutral coz u wanna rev up the engine abit when so when u downshift, it will be at a higher rpm, which will be easier for u to shift up after doing the drift.
pull handbrake is a must must for this. it stops the hind wheels from moving. so when the car has the speed, the front wheels turn and continue spinning with the hind wheels stop spinning, it forces the hind of the car to sway sideways, causing the drift to be done. if u pull too long, the car will sway too much and alot of speed will be lost.
sounds easy but its hard. coz u have to do alot of things with LITTLE TIME. wtf rite? sobs. i hope i am able to do it one day and impress ma future gf. hehe..
